About the Artist
Charles Long (b. 1948)

Born in Nigeria in 1948 to Athelstan and Zadie Long, Charles Long spent his early years in Swaziland (now Eswatini) and England. His father was a district officer, and his mother was Swedish. He gained an A-level in Art while in Swaziland before continuing his studies at Farnham School of Art. His father’s colonial postings eventually led the family to the Cayman Islands.

Charles moved to Cayman in 1968 at the age of 20 and has been painting ever since. He played a pivotal role in the local arts community as a founding member and first secretary of the Visual Arts Society and has also been involved with the National Gallery.

His art has been featured in major exhibitions, including the Santo Domingo Biennale (2003) and Carifesta X in Guyana (2008).

Long’s highly collectable pieces are part of the permanent collections of both NGCI and the Cayman Islands National Museum, which holds several of his works in the National Collection.

Charles Long’s studio is located in Savannah, Grand Cayman. He can be reached at clong48@gmail.com.
